Baby Jepheté has passed away
Death, tragedy, sorrow, pain: After waiting more than a year for open heart surgery, baby Jepheté was flown to the Caiman Islands for surgery. The surgery went well, and Jepheté was flown back to Haiti. In Haiti, the local doctors changed Jepheté's medications. A chain reaction of problems followed suite, and baby Jepheté died at the hospital in Milot. Please pray for Pastor Vanier, his wife, and their 5 children as they grieve the loss of their sweet baby boy.

The deteriorating situation in Haiti
Since the outbreak of COVID over 2 years ago, Haiti has been in turmoil. The unresolved July 7th, 2021 assassination of President Jovenel Moise left Haiti without a functional government. The corruption and complicity of the executive and legislative branches in the kidnapping has left the country in anarchy and chaos. The resulting power vacuum has been filled by rivaling gangs which war in the streets, terrorizing and killing people. Travel within the country is dangerous, making transportation difficult. The cost of food and gas has skyrocketed, causing a massive increase in poverty and starvation. The economic degradation and downward spiral have been amplified by continual kidnappings; a source of income used by the gangs to fund their increasing control of the country. Politically, foreigners are seen as the cause. As a result, anyone associated with a foreign humanitarian or religious work in Haiti has become a potential target for attack or at the very least is in a more dangerous situation than those not affiliated with foreigners. Any foreign presence has a destabilizing effect on a ministry’s day to day functioning.

Potential ministry change
Because of the threats to our workers and the increasing violence in our area of Haiti, we took some time to report back to our supporting churches. In July 2021, at the end of our furlough, we were planning our return to Haiti when the Haitian president, Jovenel Moise, was assassinated. This threw Haiti into deeper turmoil. As the violence and kidnappings increased, our mission board though it wise to wait a year to see if the political situation would improve. In August 2021, we moved to New Brunswick, Canada to help a struggling ministry through to April 2022. As the situation in Haiti has continued to worsen, we have been looking at multiple other mission fields where we could serve. Tim had 2 teaching trips to India and Turkey scheduled in March and April, but the Lord used COVID to close those doors. We traveled as a family to St. Lucia and then to French Guiana to survey these mission fields to try and discover where God will lead us next. We still have a final trip to the Bahamas at the end of August.

Making a wise ministry decision
Even though we have not been in Haiti over this last year, we have maintained daily contact with the various ministries there. We also send money every month to financially support several of the churches and ministries that have continued to function in our absence.
We are trying to make a wise ministry decision: not leaving Haiti in haste, not abandoning our financial obligations in Haiti, and not waiting too long outside of Haiti as this situation unfolds. We are taking three survey trips to three potential mission fields we feel God might direct us to serve. As we consider changing mission fields, we plan to continue our financial support of the ministry in Haiti as long as we can maintain financial oversight and accountability.

We need your prayer
Please pray for us, the first week of August (2022) we are scheduled to fly into Haiti to conduct a Bible seminar on the doctrine of salvation potentially with 300-350 church leaders and members. We will also be removing personal effects from our house and preparing to move out of Haiti. This will be an emotional and difficult time for us.
Thank you for your prayers during this time of transition. - Tim and RoseAnne Bower

Bower Family Haiti Update - Dec 23, 2021
Baby Jephté Needs a Heart Operation.
Pastor Vanier is the campus administrator and pastor for our ministry in Haiti. His son Jephté was born with multiple congenital heart defects and desperately needs heart surgery. The funds needed for the surgery were raised last year, but the COVID situation has restricted travel to many countries that had been hosting humanitarian surgeries. A few weeks ago, a traveling surgical team was scheduled to be in the Dominican Republic for a short time. Vanier's wife and Jephté traveled to the DR for the operation. But the initial consultation revealed that Jephté had a respiratory infection, which delayed the surgery enough that they missed the window of opportunity with the traveling surgical team. Jephté and Mme. Vanier have returned to Haiti and are continuing to wait for another opportunity to be presented. Please pray for Jephté as his condition worsens, he needs the operation soon.
Missionary Hostages Escaped.
We praise the Lord that the 17 missionaries taken hostage in Haiti this past October are all safely back home. Five were released and 12 escaped from their captors after more than 2 months in captivity. Haiti has become a very dangerous place, it now has the highest per capita kidnapping rate in the world. Although the foreign missionaries that were kidnapped made international news headlines, there were over 150 Haitian nationals kidnapped that same week that never made the news. Some were murdered, some were released after ransom was paid, and some are still being held prisoner. Please continue to pray for Haiti as the situation there continues to degrade.
Continuing Violence, Continuing Ministry in Haiti.
Since the assassination of Haitian president Jovenel Moise in July 2021, the situation in Haiti has continued to worsen. The FBI's involvement in the assassination investigation and subsequent failure to produce results has increased the anti-American sentiment. The Haitian government has fallen into disarray, corruption, and chaos. The national police are powerless as gangs like 400 Mawozo and Fantom 509 control the capital city of Port au Prince. Haiti has become a very dangerous place, where rapes, murders, thefts, armed attacks, and kidnappings continue to be committed daily without recourse.
Because of the escalation of violence in Haiti, the American and Canadian governments have asked their citizens to leave Haiti. We have been on an extended furlough for the past 18 months. If we were to return, our presence as foreigners would draw unwanted attention to the national pastors and put their lives and ministries at risk. Our continued absence is necessary to allow the ministries to function. Despite the political chaos and persistent violence, the churches and schools associated with our ministry are still fully functional and meeting regularly. While we are waiting for the situation in Haiti to stabilize, we keep in daily contact with the pastors and our staff. We continue to maintain our financial obligations there as if we were present, administrating from a distance.
Ministry Opportunities.
This is a very difficult time for our family, as our heart, home, and ministry are in Haiti, but we are not able to return for the time being. As we wait to see what will happen in Haiti, we continue to be involved in full time ministry where we are at. In September, we moved to New Brunswick, Canada, so that we could be a help to Pastor Matt Silver at Calvary Baptist Church in Fredericton. Tim has also been teaching at Emmanuel Baptist Bible Institute in Moncton, preaching Creole services for Haitian believers at Grace Baptist Church in Moncton, and providing pulpit supply in local churches as needed.
As we consider what God has in store for us in the future, we are also researching other ministry opportunities. Tim is scheduled to travel to India and Hungary in March to teach seminary classes and preach. We also have plans for a survey trip to the Bahamas and St. Lucia in April to determine the needs and potential for a seminary ministry there. Please continue to pray for us as we actively seek the Lord's direction for our future ministry.
Bower Family Haiti Update - August 20th, 2021
Furlough Travels
This past 3 months we’ve traveled over 8,000+ miles. We’ve gone from Indiana, Wisconsin, Florida, Arizona and Utah visiting our supporters. We arrived back in Florida a week ago in time for our son Michael’s wedding. Thank you for all the prayers, the wedding was beautiful. Aimee and Michael are happily married and living in Pensacola, Florida. They are continuing their nursing classes this fall at Pensacola Christian College.
Our Return to Haiti Postponed
Our Immediate plans for returning to Haiti have changed. Tim was planning on going into Haiti on August 19th with Hannah, Sarah Anne and I to follow August 26th. We received many texts from our church family in Haiti that have urged us not to return yet. In their words” Haiti is on the brink of civil war.” Since the assassination of the Haitian President, Moise Jovenel, on July 7, 2021, Haiti has become even more unstable, robbery, kidnapping, gang control is the norm. Inflation has also caused an extreme hardship for our church people. At this time, our presence as foreigners would bring unwanted attention to our campus ministries (church, seminary, radio station and Christian schools). We are now planning on going into Haiti after the elections. With the exception that Tim will take a short trip to our Haiti campus at the end of this month. He is going to have meetings with the Pastors, teachers, radio staff and watchman. He will then teach the seminar and work towards setting up the seminary to do online classes through the internet. Please be in prayer for him. He has a lot to do in a short week but staying longer would be too dangerous.
Earthquake and Hurricane Damage
On August 14th, Haiti had a 7.2 earthquake in the southern Penisula. Two days later Hurricane Grace hit the same area, hampering humanitarian relief efforts. We did not have any damage in the Northern part of the island where our campus is, but we have been very concerned for 2 of our pastors in the South. We have been trying to get a hold of them since the earthquake. Today we were able to reach them. Pastor Roland said that his home and church were not affected. He does have friends at the earthquake’s epicenter close to Les Cayes that he is trying to help. Pastor Antoine, who has a church in Jacmel, has had damage to his church. We are following up with these two Pastors and will be working with them to repair the church and bring relief supplies to those affected by the earthquake. We thank you all for the many prayers on behalf of the Haitian people. God knows and can meet the physical and spiritual needs of each person.
Continue to Pray for Baby Jephté
We also want to give an update on baby Jephte’s health situation. Baby Jephte and his mother were to leave Haiti for the Cayman Islands to have the heart operation the same day President Jovenel Moise was assassinated. God in His sovereignty allowed for the Cayman Islands to close their borders, which saved the family from being caught in a dangerous situation, but it has also delayed the date of Jephte’s operation. We ask that you continue to pray that Jephte’s little body will hang in there until the Cayman Islands reopen and he can get in to have his operation.
Future Ministry Plans
We have to wait until next spring to re-enter Haiti because of the violence and chaos. We are looking at several temporary ministries so that we can continue to serve the Lord as we wait to return to Haiti. We are both looking into taking French classes and Tim is also seeking opportunities to teach Bible classes in other parts of the world. Tim will also continue writing Bible study materials in Creole and he will be continuing his daily contact with the many ministries in Haiti. We will send you an update when we have our next step figured out.
As always thank you for lifting our family and the Haitian people up in prayer.
May God bless,
Tim and RoseAnne Bower

Bower Haiti Family Update - July 7th, 2021
Haitian President Assassinated
Jovnel Moise, president of Haiti, was assassinated last night (1am July 7th) at his private residence by a group of mercenaries. Jovnel died in his home, but his wife was rushed to the hospital with gunshot wounds. There are reports that she has died, but they cannot be confirmed. It is unclear who is responsible for the assassination, but videos show armed mercenaries that pretend to be DEA agents so that they can gain entrance to the president’s compound.
Martial Law Declared
Martial law (etat de siege) has been declared in Haiti as chaos continues. The airport in Port au Prince has been closed. The US Embassy has been closed. The borders to the Dominican Republic have been closed.
The political situation is bizarre. Because there have been no elections in 5 years, political leaders’ (senators and deputies) terms have expired. The parliament is essentially disbanded for the time being. President Jovenel had been ruling by decree for a year and a half. The prime minister Joseph Jouthe resigned in April 2021 amid political violence and threats. Claude Joseph was appointed interim prime minister and has held the office since then. A new prime minister was to be sworn in today (July 7th), but with the death of the president, the present prime minister has taken control. The presidency should have gone to the president of the Haitian supreme court (Président de la Cour de Cassation, Me René Sylvestre), but he died from COVID 2 weeks ago and a replacement has not yet been chosen.
Haiti in Chaos
Haiti is now in complete chaos. With the assassination of the president, the death of the president of the supreme court, the disbanded parliament, the disputed presidency of the interim prime minister, and the military enforcement of martial law, what will become of this tiny island nation already drowning in poverty and plagued by human rights abuses? To make matters worse, the capital, Port au Prince has been dominated by escalating gang violence over the past year. Kidnappings, murder, theft, and violence are normal daily occurrences throughout the country. Roadblocks and bandits have limited travel and constricted commerce causing a rise in the price of basic food stuffs and limiting the supply of gasoline.
Violence Reaches St. Raphael
The violence has also spread to our rural area in the north. 2 Gang members from the 400 Mawozo gang in the capital were arrested in St. Raphael last week. Others gang members have also been seen in our area of St. Raphael. This morning our campus in St Raphael was attacked by local thugs. One of our watchmen was wounded in the attack. He was hit by a rock which almost broke his leg. Our campus, school activities, and radio are now closed as a result of the declaration of martial law. While many of our campus activities have been suspended, the churches can continue to meet and hold regular services.
Please pray for Haiti as it has plunged further into chaos. Pray for the safety of our pastors and church leaders as they struggle to serve the Lord during this very difficult and dangerous situation.
Bower Family Travel Plans
As for our family (the Bowers), we are still in the US. We are currently in Florida as we are preparing for a trip out west. We have meetings scheduled in Arizona and Utah during July and early August which will conclude our furlough. We are scheduled to return to Haiti at the end of August.
Thank you again for your prayers for us and the ministry in Haiti.

Jephté Still Waiting For Heart Surgery
Please continue to pray for Pastor Vanier Pierre’s son Jephté. Jephté was born with congenital heart defects and needs heart surgery. A humanitarian organization has arranged for the operation at a hospital in the Cayman Islands and a number of people have already graciously given the funds necessary for the operation. But sadly, as soon as everything had come together, the Cayman Islands closed due to COVID restrictions. Jephté has just turned one and continues to have a lot of health issues due to his heart birth defects. Please continue to uphold Pastor Vanier’s family and son Jephté in prayer. This has been difficult for them to see one miracle after another take place; the humanitarian organization coordinating the operation, the funds miraculously coming in, passports and all the paperwork completed, only to be told to wait. But they are patiently waiting and trusting the Lord for His perfect timing. They would like to express their gratitude and thanks to all that have contributed and helped to raise the funds for Jephté’s surgery. They are asking for your prayers for Jephté’s health and that the Lord will open the border of the Cayman Islands so that Jephté can get the surgery he so desperately needs.

Bible Seminar At End Of March
Tim will be returning to Haiti for two weeks. He will be travelling back to Haiti to teach a seminar later this month. When we were last in Haiti, we left a very hostile environment. We are hoping upon Tim’s return he will see a notable difference. He will have a lot to do during the 2 weeks he will be there. He will be organizing and teaching in a Bible seminar that typically has over 350 people attending. The seminar is a 5 day, 6 hours per day, Bible doctrine conference. Tim will have meetings with the pastors of the three new church plants and get an update on their new ministries. He will have meetings with the directors of all the campus ministries encouraging and exhorting where it is needed. There are also a lot of maintenance issues to deal with including an electrical short in the security system, a float valve to repair in the water cisterns, and a broken-down truck. (photo from our last seminar with over 300 people attending)

Road Work Continues As The Wall Comes Down
The government has been working on a bridge in front of our house for almost a year now. Last spring, they annexed the front part of our property and tore down the security wall on the front part of our campus. This caused a whole slew of security issues and the necessary for a temporary wall made of tin, which we put up immediately. The first phase of the bridge construction is finished, and the second phase is starting. This phase will bring the road up to meet the bridge. The road crew will now take down the rest of our concrete security wall in the front of campus. Not only will the remainder of the wall come down but also the school outhouses and our water distribution building that we use to give purified water to the community. Access to campus will also be restricted because the main entrance to the road will be cut off. While Tim is there he will need to assess and plan for a new entrance so the children and church members can access the church and school easily.

Furlough Travel Plans
Our furlough is coming to an end. We have two big trips yet to come. Lord willing, be going to Canada this June and then out
West to Utah and Arizona in mid-July. We will work our way back to Florida and fly into Haiti in August.
Thank you for your prayers and continued support of the ministry in Haiti,
Tim and RoseAnne Bower
Our furlough is coming to an end. We have two big trips yet to come. Lord willing, be going to Canada this June and then out
West to Utah and Arizona in mid-July. We will work our way back to Florida and fly into Haiti in August.
Thank you for your prayers and continued support of the ministry in Haiti,
Tim and RoseAnne Bower
